| Sometimes they woke with the realisation that everything was in its place, that everything was perfect. On those days, they saw as the others did, and breathed. On most days, they awoke with fear running through their veins as though it was the remnants of a bad trip from a bad life. They awoke, and cried silently, and came to the realisation that this was life. On these days, they would choose not to wake at all, fall asleep dreaming of hands and love and strength, and would awake with the knowledge of hatred and unfriendly strangers and how their own weakness could not compare to someone's strength. And eventually, there would be more of the good days, but they did not know that yet, and were merely waiting for the sign that there was something more than white washed walls and their own madness staring them back and beating them every time. And it was easy to say, 'Be strong.', but very hard to match up to it and what it wanted from them. And while everything was taking, something was growing, and eventually they would see. But, not now. Not just yet. Something was growing. |
